Leeds Horticultural Society Diary 2012

Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month. Meetings start at 8pm prompt.

Tuesday 7th February  -  Peter Stirk – Yorkshire Water


Peter is coming along to give us a slide show and video presentation about Yorkshire Water, including how the water is treated.        Refreshments and raffle as usual


Tuesday 6th March  – Val Crompton – History of York Gate


Val has lived in North Leeds for over 40 years and has enjoyed watching the development of York Gate. She enjoys cataloguing these changes through drawings, taking photographs and writing about the garden.            Raffle and the usual refreshments.   Friends welcome


Tuesday 3rd April – Annual General Meeting and Spring Show


After the A.G.M. business, Gordon and Joe will be on stage to entertain.   Members will also be bring their exhibits for the show.     Raffle/refreshments as usual


Tuesday 1st May – Emma Oldroyd – Back to Front  – Urban Gardening


Emma is a Lecturer in Landscape Architecture, Urban and Garden design at Leeds Metropolitan University.   She is also a Landscape Architect in her own right.        Friends welcome.  Refreshments and raffle as usual


Saturday 19th May-Plant Sale & Coffee Morning

The plant sale & coffee morning  from 9.30a.m. to 11.30 a.m.


Tuesday 12th June – David Lister SRA – Leeds Show 1981 (Re-scheduled from Tuesday 5th June)


This is a look back at the Leeds show held in 1981 when David Lister, the current L.H.S. President, was then the Show Manager.  David has a passion for growing roses and has been doing so for over 60 years.   He has been involved with the Leeds show for over 57 years.   Raffle/Refreshments.


Tuesday 3rd July – Summer Show


Once again Joe Maiden and Gordon Kirby will be on stage, to entertain and to give tips on growing and care of both flowers and veg.    The summer show gives the members a chance to show off their produce, flowers and plants.   Come along and see for yourself.  Refreshments/raffle as usual


Tuesday 7th August – John Smiles – Flowers & Vegetables of 2011


John works in Agriculture and supports Sunderland.   At the Harrogate Autumn Flower show 2011 he won the Master Gardener Award for his cut flowers, potted plant, dish of fruit and dish of veg.

Tuesday 4th September – Autumn Show


Gordon Kirby and Joe Maiden will be with us once again to give tips for the Autumn and Winter.

This show gives our members the last chance of this year to show their plants, flowers, veg etc.

Refreshments and raffle.


Tuesday 2nd October – Chris Cole/Neil Pearson – Heirloom Tomatoes


Heirloom Tomatoes Ltd. are producers of the most extraordinary Tomato plants, cultivators of hand picked and specially selected tomato seeds.   Why not bring your friends along.  Raffle/Refreshments


Tuesday 6th November – Peter & Yvonne Holden – Christmas is coming


Peter and Yvonne will be giving a demonstration on how to make a Holly Wreath, using natural products, along with stories and myths of Christmas.   Usual refreshments and raffle


Tuesday 4th December – Christmas Get-together


Join us for a light supper and a quiz or two, along with a raffle.  Tickets for this will be on sale at the October and November meetings.
